In Okinawa Prefecture, October 17th is famous as "Okinawa soba Day".
I looked into why this day became Okinawa soba's Day.
One of Okinawa's representative dishes is "Okinawa soba".
It is made from flour, salt and watering as a raw material, and unlike Japanese soba, it does not use "soba flour", so it is classified as Chinese noodles in terms of manufacturing method.
It is said to be the beginning of what was served in a store run by a Tangjin in Maenoge (Kaminozo-cho) in Naha after the middle of Meiji period.At that time, it seems that it was simply called "Suba" or "China Subaru". In 1916 (Taisho 5), the Chief of Naha Police at the time instructed to change to "Ryukyu Soba", but it did not take root.
It was only after the war that it became commonly called "Okinawa soba".
In 1976 (Showa 51), after returning to Japan, the Fair Trade Commission stated that Okinawa soba, which does not contain more than 30 percent of buckwheat flour, cannot be labeled as "soba."
On October 17, 1978 (Showa 53), the Fair Trade Commission officially approved the registration of "Home Okinawa soba" for the labeling of specialty products, specialty products, authentic products and specialty products in the separate table for the Enforcement Rules of Fair Competition Rules.To commemorate this day, the Okinawa Raw Noodles Cooperative set October 17 as "Okinawa soba Day" in 1997.
